2005 Cockatoo Ridge Shiraz
Winemaker: Stephen Obst
Region: South Australia
Technical Details:
Alc/Vol: 13.9%
Residual Sugar: 0.5g/L
Titratable Acidity: 6.2g/L
pH: 3.4
Winemaker’s Notes:
Colour: Deep purple red in colour with hints
of ruby.
Bouquet: Aromas of dark berry fruits especially
spicy plums with hints of pepper.
Palate: A full bodied palate with intense, spicy
plum flavours and chalky tannins. The flavour of cherries leads
to a generous yet soft mid palate which compliments the obvious
fruit length and sweetness.
Cellaring Potential: Drink now while the fruit
flavours are full and voluptuous.
Winemaking Details: Early January rain caused
some initial concern in the vintage lead up although the rains
soon cleared and allowed the vines to dry out before harvest began.
The early rain had no impact what so ever on fruit quality and
the rest of summer remained warm and dry. The weather did mean
fruit flavours developed a little slower and later but the final
results were excellent fruit flavour and a fine tannin structure.
Serving Suggestions: Perfect accompaniment to
a roasted beef fillet, barbequed rump steak or for something a
tad different try Chorizo with saffron rice! Enjoy!
