Tahbilk Chosen as a Wine & Spirits International Winery of The
Year
October 2008
Tahbilk Wines, from Central Victoria’s picturesque Nagambie
Lakes region, has been chosen by Wine & Spirits Magazine, a
leading wine magazine in the USA, as one ofits international Wineries
of the Year for 2008.
Awarded by the editors of the magazine, the Wineries of the Year
are chosen based on consistently high performance and scores throughout
the magazine’s comprehensive 12 month tasting cycle. This
is the fourth time Tahbilk has been awarded this honour, with international
Winery of the Year status also being bestowed in 1996, 2001 and
2003.
All of the wineries awarded this title appear in Wine & Spirits
Magazine’s annual Guide to Buying Wine, being released in
the US in November. However, to celebrate the honour and share
appreciation of the wines with both the trade and public, the fifth
Annual Wine & Spirits Top 100 Tasting is being held in San
Francisco at the historic Mint Building on Tuesday 14 October.
Tahbilk will be represented at the tasting.
Established in 1860, Tahbilk is not only Victoria’s and
one of Australia’s oldest wineries but also boasts the world’s
largest and oldest planting of Marsanne and some of the world’s
oldest Shiraz vines. The Estate is owned by the Purbrick family
who has had 5 generations involved with the company’s operations
since their purchase of the property in 1925.
Recognised as a world class producer of iconic wines, the brand
features the Rhone Valley varieties of Viognier, Marsanne and Shiraz
as well as the traditional super premium varieties of Cabernet
Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Riesling.
Alister Purbrick, CEO and Chief Winemaker of Tahbilk said, “We
are very honoured to be recognised again as an International Winery
of the Year by the influential Wine and Spirits Magazine in the
US. We know they conduct a rigorous tasting program over the course
of each year and for Tahbilk to receive this accolade, for a consistently
high performance for a fourth time, is very rewarding, and a great
compliment to our winemaking and vineyard teams.”
