Portland, Maine (April 5, 2004) -- In a statistical study
released last week by Modern Brewery Age, The Shipyard Brewing
Company was listed among the top 10 breweries in the United
States with the highest percentage of increase in sales from
2002 - 2003.
Shipyard also placed in the top 15% of United States Commercial
Breweries for 2003. Maine's largest brewery is listed as
31st out of 244 top commercial breweries in the United States.
This statistical study ranks the top reporting national and
craft brewers.
In publication since 1933, Modern Brewery Age is the leading
magazine of the beer business and the only audited publication
covering the beer market.
In 2003, The Shipyard Brewing Company shipped over a half-million
cases (45,255 barrels) of their award-winning, hand-crafted
ales. This represents a 15.2% increase over 2002 and marks
a new brewery record.
"In 2002 we topped all of our previous growth records
when we shipped 15% more barrels than 2001," noted Master
Brewer Alan Pugsley. "This new record puts our company
at 33% growth over 2 years."
Since 2000, The Shipyard Brewing Company's core market has
grown at a phenomenal rate of over 10% per year, which is
three times the national growth average tracked by the Association
of Brewers. In 2003 the craft brewing industry nationwide
grew just 3.4%.
The Shipyard Brewing Company celebrates their 10 year anniversary
in 2004. They currently produce 12 different varieties of
award-winning English style and seasonal beers. More information
