Weihenstephan Crystal Wheat Beer Named Grand Champion
at Australian International Beer Awards
Weihenstephan
crystal wheat beer comes off as the overall winner of the Australian
International Beer Awards 2007, bringing the coveted “Grand
Champion Trophy” (below, right) to Bavaria.
Almost 900 kinds of beer from 39 countries were tasted within nine
days by the judges at the second biggest beer competition in the
world with the objective of selecting the best premium beer world-wide.
On 19th April the jury announced their verdict in Sofitel Melbourne
before 530 guests: The crystal wheat beer of the Bavarian State Brewery
Weihenstephan left the competition way behind and proved convincing
with the quality of best brewing tradition from the oldest brewery
in the world.
As the name allows us to surmise, crystal wheat beer is a foaming,
crystal-clear beer, whose refreshing and unique taste reminded the
judges of bananas and tropical fruit.
At this year’s competition, the Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan
was distinguished a total of nine times. Apart from the Crystal wheat
beer, the German style Hefeweizen beer, the Pilsner, the Original
lager beer and the dark lager Tradition received awards for outstanding
characteristics regarding taste, quality and packaging.
It is the unique relation of time-tested know-how and modern science

this very reason, the beer brewers at the Bavarian State Brewery
