Humboldt Brewing Company History
Founded in 1987, during the California craft beer revolution, Humboldt Brewing Company is a pioneering microbrewery nestled in the heart of the Redwood forest. The brewery represents an idea intrinsic to life in Humboldt: a passion to live fully and in unison with the ancient trees and rocky coastline that make this corner of the world so intimate and beloved. The people here simply wish to drink good beer, and Humboldt Brewing Company is more than happy to oblige.
Growing up in a section of the U.S. infamous for their love and production of hemp, it is only fitting Humboldt Brewing Company incorporates this lifestyle into their beers – without the THC, of course. Since winning Gold at the California State Fair in 1999, Humboldt Brown Hemp Ale, along with the rest of the line-up, has been winning awards across the U.S.
In 2003, Firestone Walker bought the brewery and renamed it Nectar Ales, but the company’s ties to its place of origin never faded. When Total Beverage Solution purchased Nectar Ales in 2012, they changed the name back to Humboldt Brewing Company and promised to continue brewing in California. Home, it turns out, is where the beer is.
