On the palate flavours of crisp red apple and juicy ripe pear are integrated with smooth acidity, fine phenolics and a just a hint of sweetness leading to a fresh and richly textured finish.
History of Pinot Gris 2018
Nelson’s warm climate, high sunshine hours and varied soil profiles makes it ideal for growing aromatic varieties such as Pinot Gris. The 2017/2018 growing season in Nelson began with very warm and dry conditions, enabling excellent flowering and fruit-set in the vines. Much needed rain fell in mid to late January, however the much heavier rain that fell between February and March provided challenges for the vineyard teams – with record levels seen over the first three months of the year. Despite these challenges, clean fruit at ideal ripeness levels was achieved through meticulous vineyard management which through methods such as shoot thinning and leaf plucking allowed light and airflow into the canopy.
