Reserva Malbec 2017 Photo
Region: Maule Valley
Origin: Chile

Tasting Notes

This vintage presented Malbec wines with the intense carmine-cherry red color characteristic of the Maule zone. The expressive nose is fruity and delicate with aromas of ripe red plums, wild red berries, blackcurrants, and notes of evolution. The medium-bodied palate starts smooth and is very juicy with sweet, round tannins, and ends with a fresh and persistent finish.

History of Reserva Malbec 2017

The grapes for the Reserva Malbec come from Chilensis’ estate San Rafael vineyard in the Maule Valley (162 miles south of Santiago and 12.5 miles from the Andes mountain range). The valley is geographically diverse and enjoys a Mediterranean climate. Summers are warm and dry with a significant day-night temperature variation. Winters are cold and rainy. Most of the vineyard’s alluvial soils are loam to clay-loam in texture with a moderate fertility. Vigilant canopy management and cluster thinning during what was a relatively cool growing season led to a yield of just under three tons per acre.
