Ron Abuelo History
Where there is sugar cane, there should be rum—at least that’s what the three sons of Don José Varela Blanco insisted upon in 1936. Twenty years earlier, Don José had emigrated from Spain to Panama to open a sugar mill. On the suggestion of his boys, he began distilling alcohol from sugar cane juice. Turns out, he was very good at it.
Though production facilities were modernized in 1976 to utilize a stainless steel column system, Ron Abuelo is still made from 100% Panamanian Estate grown virgin sugar cane honey. The production of Ron Abuelo is a third-generation operation, with family members dedicated to creating some of the finest rum the world has known.
Experience the line of aged rums still produced in the heart of Panama.
