Orkney Brewery History

Orkney is home to some of the best-preserved Neolithic sites in Europe. There are villages, burial tombs, and stone circles — in fact, the 5000-year-old heartland was granted World Heritage status by UNESCO in 1999. The brewery itself was founded in 1988 and was one of the first micro-breweries in Scotland. It’s located in Quoyloo on the West Mainland and sits within an old schoolhouse which dates back to 1878. Orkney produces small batches of traditionally crafted brews, with high quality raw materials supported by exceptional Orcadian water. The brewery’s visitor’s center and tasting hall is the only 5-star brewery visitor center in Scotland.
