Poggiotondo History
The story of Poggiotondo began in 1968, when Carlo Antonini purchased the estate in the northwestern corner of Chianti, home to 123 acres of vines and 2,000 olive trees. His son, Alberto, expanded on the knowledge of the Tuscan winegrowers before him through studies at the Universities of Florence, Bordeaux, and California, Davis. After a decade with leading producers such as Frescobaldi, d’Orcia, and Antinori, and experience in the USA, Alberto founded his own oenological consulting company.
Today, his projects span the globe, yet Poggiotondo remains the truest expression of his winemaking philosophy —a place he calls home with his wife, Alessandra, and their three children.
