Meet Tony Marino, our wine & spirits market manager in California and Hawaii. Tony has been with the TBS team for the better part of a decade. He loves spending time with his family, traveling to Italy, and selling our great wine & spirits brands! Find out more about Tony in our Q & A below.
How long have you been working for TBS? 9 Years
March 1st, 2009
What is your title? Market Manager
And what do you do in that role?
I am responsible for selling TBS Wine & Spirits and managing our wholesalers in California and Hawaii.
What is a day at TBS like in your shoes?
Every day is different, but the main thread is distributor and account interaction, along with inventory control for each of my wholesalers, invoice coding, program updates, and working as much as possible with the three Brand Ambassadors for California: Natalie Makos, Debra Stone and Eliott Montero.
Tell us a little about yourself:
I have a beautiful wife; Susan, three Children, Roman (25) Zoe (16) and Lorenzo (15). I was born and raised in Kansas City and went to Kansas State University. I started my career in the restaurant business, managing and then owning my own restaurant for a combined total of 17 years, before getting into the supplier side in 2001 with R.H. Phillips/Hogue. We currently live in San Clemente, CA.
Favorite drink? Well to be blunt I like ALL types of alcohol depending on the situation, but I do enjoy our high-end Italian portfolio of Wines. OK two! A handmade Lime Juice Margarita and the “Monte Manhattan,” of course.
What do you like best about working at TBS?
I enjoy the autonomy to run my market, with the ability to make decisions immediately to move our business forward in a timely manner. I also enjoy selling the wide breadth of wine and spirits TBS has to offer, it’s nice, as every day isn’t selling the SAME thing, I can mix it up and it’s never boring!
What is one thing at work you can’t do without? PERF Codes
Favorite place to travel?
This business has afforded me great opportunities to travel to wonderful places like Scotland, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, and Australia, with Panama added to the list this month. Having Hawaii as part of my market responsibilities doesn’t suck either. But Number #1 must be Italy.
Describe your perfect meal:
Very hard to describe the perfect meal, as it is so dependent on company, ambience and service, but eating great food and drinking good wine with family and friends, anywhere pretty much sums it up.
Any charity near and dear to your heart?
St. Jude Charity is very close to my heart and family.
What do you do in your free time?
Ironically, I generally hate people (insert restaurant life here) so spending time at our secluded beach or at home watching cooking shows and documentaries with my family is great. I love golf, but sadly I only play maybe 4-5 rounds a year. (I will not play on Weekends.)
If you could have one super power, which would you choose? Ability to fly
If you could travel to one place on earth, right now, where would you go? Florence, Italy
Best advice you ever received? My Grandfather told me: “If you’re going to be a dummy… be a quiet one.”
