Meet Erica Zakrzewski, our Corporate Compliance Manager. Erica’s role is so crucial as she makes sure all of our products, among other things, are legally compliant across the US. In her free time, Erica loves riding horses, traveling or following her favorite sports teams (real or fantasy)! Find out more about Erica in our Q & A below.
How long have you been working for TBS? 10 months (April 2018)
What is your title? Corporate Compliance Manager
What do you do in that role? Manage the legal/compliance aspects of importing including filing permits, COLA filings, Formula/Lab Analysis, State Registrations/Renewals, Label Registrations, Foreign LLC annual filings, Bonds, Trademarks, Distributor Appointments, Contracts/Contract Amendments, Importer/Wholesale regulations, & tons of research on alcohol laws.
What is a day at TBS like in your shoes? I usually start my day organizing my ‘To Do List’ and answering emails. The rest of the day is usually a juggling act of managing deadlines, researching U.S. liquor laws, and most importantly getting our alcohol brands into the country and accessible in as many states as possible.
Tell us a little about yourself: I grew up in Northwest Connecticut to a big family, started college at UCONN & graduated from College of Charleston. Fun Facts: I was born in a car, on a mountain, in a blizzard. I can recall random sports statistics off the top of my head & have played fantasy football for 10+ years. My favorite teams are UConn Huskies, New England Patriots, New York Yankees, & US Soccer.
Favorite drink? My all-time favorite is a Double O-7 which is Orange Vodka, 7up, and a Splash of OJ. For TBS products, I love a Monte Mule.
What do you like best about working at TBS? I love the freedom I’m given to manage the compliance duties the best way I see fit. The realization that nobody else has the answers for my particular job is extremely challenging but equally rewarding. The ability to travel, endless learning opportunities, catered lunches, & our beautiful office bar makes working here great.
What is one thing at work you can’t do without? Coffee, Espresso, and a To Do List!
Favorite place to travel? New Zealand was breathtakingly beautiful. My favorite cities in the world are also: Florence, Italy, Stockholm, Sweden, and Denver, Colorado.
Describe your perfect meal: I love making Chicken Piccata paired with a glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. It’s so good I could have it almost every day.
Any charity near and dear to your heart? Volunteering for Habitat for Humanity was one organization where I really felt I was making a difference. Also, Charity Water is a great organization where 100% of the money you donate is used to bring clean water to communities in need. 1 in 10 people in the world lack access to clean water which is something we easily take for granted.
What do you do in your free time? I love traveling to new places and trying anything new. Going to concerts (reggae), SUP, hiking, biking, reading, beach days, and horseback riding whenever possible.
If you could keep any animal as a pet, which would it be? A Horse of course! (Thoroughbred)
If you could have one superpower, which would you choose? Cure cancer and make the human race blissfully happy.
If you could go to one concert (even if the singer is dead or alive) what would it be? U2… and I would have given anything to see Tom Petty/Michael Jackson in concert!
